Facebook Boosted Posts vs Ads Campaigns – What’s the Difference?

As Facebook has evolved over the years since its inception, its algorithm has evolved along with it.

It is a giant in the world of digital marketing, and establishing a presence there is key. However, there has been a shift to the pay-to-play model, meaning if you want to see big growth, you’re going to need to put in the ad spend dollars. So, what’s the difference between boosted posts and ads campaigns?

There are two main arms of Facebook advertising – boosting posts or running a campaign. They’re both ways to create paid ads, so what’s the difference and when should I use them?

Facebook advertising can be confusing

The short answer?

Boosted posts are a simple way to get your post in front of a larger audience, (ie, reach and impressions) while with bespoke ads, you can create hyper-targeted ad campaigns to reach your exact goals and objectives. (ie, leads, traffic, sales, etc)⠀⠀

You may be thinking, what’s the point of even offering post boosts if the user has much more control with bespoke campaign ads?

Boosted posts are a great option in a couple of instances. If you have a limited budget and are hoping to gain traction on a particular post. For example, if you are running a giveaway campaign and looking to increase entries. Facebook optimizes these posts for engagement, so if that’s the goal boosted posts are probably a safe bet.

However, more in-depth ad campaigns are preferred by marketers as the results are even more targeted. If increased page likes, traffic to your website, and sales are your goals, it’s better to dive into the Facebook ad manager for a more in-depth campaign with long-term results.

Though it can be daunting at first, Facebook offers a Blueprint training series to help you navigate through the world of Facebook advertising.

Happy marketing!
